    Default Sayonara Applebees

It has been brought to my attention that Applebees on Rt 110 will be closing in the near future.
In the last 2 years there have been a number of restaurants on Rt 110 that have closed, which raises the question if an affluent community, such as Westford, with an annual median household income greater than $110,000 cannot support inexpensive restaurants what will be dining out scene in two or three years from now.

    :o

Wall to Wall BKs and McDs or high priced Oriental restaurants producing mono sodium glutamate tasty morsels of food.

It would be interesting to hear from the perspective of the restaurateur. Presumably they evaluate a location according to its cost to open and operate there (zoning, permitting, availability of liquor licenses, etc.) as well as the estimated revenue (based on location, demographics, competition, etc.) So what causes Westford to lose a restaurant, whether Old Oaken Bucket, Beef and Ale or Rancho de Amigos. Of course, not all of them are equally missed...

Default Applebees and Chilis...too much alike

Frankly, I think the issue is that Applebees and Chilis are so much alike in food offerings that the area cannot support both. We find the same type of food at Applebees as we do at Chilis, the Ninety-Nine and to a lesser extent the Westford Grille. There is a great lack of variety. I would love to see a decent Mexican place or Italian place in the immediate area. However, do we really need 8-9 restaurants (okay D'Angelos isn't quite a restaurant) within a 2 mile radius?

The quality of the food at Applebees, Chilis and even McDonalds in Westford is much worse then others under the same chain name outside of Westford. I haven't eaten at Applebees or McDonalds in Westford in a long time because of the low quality food being served at one point. I'll meet people at Chilis in Westford and eat there occasionally, but their food is generally worse than that at other Chiliis in other parts of the state/country. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but I will not miss Applebees.

It would be nice to get more variety in town that is not overpriced (Bamboo, Westford Grille, Belle's Bistro are all nice restaurants but can be a bit pricey). I miss the Oaken Bucket and Rancho, although I'm not sure why.

Well I also heard that McD's is going with Applebees in favor of (guess what) another strip plaza. Can't wait. lol.

And I thought it was just me. I have to agree with this point. Just driving up to Drum Hill generally yields a better experience with Applebees.

I'd have to agree that the 99 rest.. Chilis and Applebees have all gone down hill over the last few years. It's become almost impossible to determine what establishment you were eating at my food alone.. I was even sadden when the 99 did away with their decor and sanitized the place

A good Mexican place would be nice but I certainly don't mind traveling to Nashua for that.

Fishbones in Chelmsford is close enough.. ! We did have a great bakery in Westford a few years ago.. then they skipped out of town in the middle of the night. Does anyone remember the name of that place? They had REALLY good cakes and Gingerbread cookies

Colonial Oven, I think. Owner lived in Nab - dropped off a Halloween cake the first year we moved here and had a Halloween party. Seemed nice enough, but heard she skipped out in the middle of the night. A good bakery offering gluten-free, soy-free, vegan yummies would be nice. For now, I'll just bake them myself...
