    Default home security

I am looking to install a home security system and would appreciate any advice. I am debating between a monitored system by one of the big names (ADT, Broadview, etc) or just system within the home. Anyone have any experience with any of the companies or have any recommendations?

I am looking at an ADT system to tie in with the video cameras. I need the system more for keeping people in than out, we have a little Houdini in the house and can set up an alarm system to ring anytime a window or door is opened...if I could find a deadbolt with a keypad on both sides it would be nice, too.

We use ADT and have for about 10 years. We have been very satisfied with the service and the price. We were not oversold on things we didn't need or want. When we first moved in, we only had a within the home system. All it does is make noise and it doesn't summon help if you need it. And, ADT was able to adapt/use parts of that system in the system they installed, saving us time and money. I have very rarely (maybe 2x in 10 years) had a false alarm. I also like the fact that it includes fire alarm monitoring. So I would recommend ADT. Don't have any experience with Broadview.

Personally, I recommend wireless based monitoring eg. FrontPoint Security, Alarm.com. From a technical standpoint, they're very challenging to defeat relative to land line based monitoring. A wireless jammer would be effective (http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/27/s...reless-jammer/), however, these are surely more challenging to obtain than a pair of scissors. I think Broadview (formerly Monitronics) may be getting into the wireless arena.

Most ADT systems are merely placebos with an insufficient amount of intrusion/emergency detection devices.
